Welcome Prof. Federico Bella as Editor-in-Chief of GreenMat Energy
OAE's brand-new open access journal GreenMat Energy is honored to announce the appointment of Prof. Federico Bella as its Editor-in-Chief. Prof. Bella is a distinguished Full Professor of Chemical Foundations of Technologies at the Politecnico di Torino, Turin, Italy. He is internationally recognized for his contributions to materials chemistry and sustainable energy technologies, and he brings extensive research and editorial experience to this leadership role.
About the Journal
GreenMat Energy is an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal dedicated to publishing high-quality research on sustainable, low-carbon, and green energy materials. The journal provides an interdisciplinary platform that brings together materials science, chemistry, energy engineering, and data-driven approaches to address global energy challenges.
The journal focuses on innovative materials and technologies that integrate environmental sustainability, bio-based and circular materials, and artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled materials design into advanced energy systems. Its goal is to accelerate the development of next-generation energy materials and technologies that reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, and support circular economy principles.
GreenMat Energy publishes original research articles, short communications, review articles, and perspectives, encompassing experimental, computational, and data-driven studies. Particular emphasis is placed on the design, synthesis, characterization, and application of sustainable energy materials, as well as their integration into functional devices and energy systems.
About Prof. Federico Bella

Prof. Federico Bella has established an extensive and impactful research portfolio in the field of energy materials and sustainable technologies. He has authored over 103 peer-reviewed publications, the majority of which appear in high-impact, Institute for Scientific Information (ISI)-indexed journals, with numerous contributions as first or corresponding author. According to Scopus, Prof. Bella holds an H-index of 79 and has received more than 8,700 citations, reflecting the strong international impact of his work across energy materials, electrochemistry, photocatalytic systems, and sustainable technologies.
His research spans a wide range of topics closely aligned with the mission of GreenMat Energy, including materials chemistry for energy conversion and storage, such as photovoltaics, batteries, and supercapacitors; electrochemical nitrogen reduction; and tailored materials for photopolymerization, green and waste-derived energy applications.
Prof. Bella has also played a leading role in major international and national research projects. He is Principal Investigator for multiple projects funded under the European Union's Horizon 2020 (H2020) programme, as well as national funding schemes. Notably, he leads the European Research Council (ERC)-funded SuN2rise project, the GIGAGREEN project focused on sustainable cell manufacturing processes, and several additional initiatives addressing aqueous solar conversion and smart energy platforms.
Prof. Bella's scientific vision, grounded in materials chemistry and sustainable energy solutions, aligns closely with the forward-looking scope of GreenMat Energy. His deep expertise in materials design, energy conversion and storage technologies, together with his editorial leadership experience, will be instrumental in guiding the journal's mission to publish high-quality research that advances sustainable energy innovation.
