On June 12, 2023, the Editorial Office of Extracellular Vesicles and Circulating Nucleic Acids (EVCNA) had an exclusive interview with Dr. Juan Manuel Falcón-Pérez. During the discussion, he shared his thoughts on being honored with the ISEV 2023 Special Achievement Award and his current research projects on oral progenitor cell line-derived small extracellular vesicles for wound treatment. Dr. Weiliang Xia, a professor at Biomedical Engineering and Med-X Research Insitute, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China, hosted the interview.

Dr. Juan Manuel Falcón-Pérez is IKERBSQUE Research Professor. He is also the group leader of the Exosomes Lab and Head of the Metabolomics Platform at CIC bioGUNE-BRTA, Bilbao, Spain.

Throughout the interview, Dr. Falcón-Pérez shared details about his research journey, ongoing projects, and progress, and elaborated on some of his key contributions and notable projects. Additionally, Dr. Falcón-Pérez talked about his future research plans and goals and provided several helpful suggestions for researchers to begin their journey in this field.

Q1: First of all, congratulations to you on winning the ISEV 2023 Special Achievement Award. Could you please share your feeling about winning the award, as well as your research progress and achievements?

Q2: We are aware of your current research on oral progenitor cell line-derived small extracellular vesicles as a treatment for wound. What are the advantages of EVs compared to other treatments?

Q3: There is growing interest in the reproducibility of extracellular vesicles studies. Could you please share the challenges and solutions for the reproducibility of extracellular vesicle studies?

Q4: As reliable biomarkers, what are the prospects and challenges of extracellular vesicles for clinical applications?

Q5: As we know, you have made significant contributions and participations in various areas of EVs since 2005. Could you please elaborate on some of your key contributions and notable projects over many years?

Q6: What are your specific plans for the future research?

Q7: What piece of advice will you give to scientists to starting their journey in this field?
