EVCNA Establishes Official Partnership with the Professional Committee on Chinese Herbal-Derived Vesicles Research and Application of the Guangdong Provincial Association of Chinese Medicine
We are delighted to announce that on May 30, 2025, Extracellular Vesicles and Circulating Nucleic Acids (EVCNA) officially entered into a strategic partnership with the Professional Committee on Chinese Herbal-Derived Vesicles Research and Application, under the Guangdong Provincial Association of Chinese Medicine.
As part of this collaboration, EVCNA is honored to be recognized as the Committee’s official partner journal. In this role, EVCNA will actively support the Committee’s annual conference and related academic activities, in recognition of its vital contributions to advancing research on herbal-derived extracellular vesicles.
EVCNA is committed to fostering academic exchange and interdisciplinary collaboration to accelerate the research and therapeutic applications of plant-derived vesicles. Through this partnership, we aim to enhance the global visibility and scientific influence of traditional herbal medicine, viewed through the lens of extracellular vesicle research.
About the Committee
The Professional Committee on Chinese Herbal-Derived Vesicles Research and Application (hereinafter referred to as the "Committee") is an academic, non-profit organization approved by the Guangdong Provincial Association of Chinese Medicine. Its members include volunteers from research institutes, universities, medical institutions, and enterprises across Guangdong Province, China, all engaged in the study and application of herbal-derived vesicles. The Committee was authorized in October 2023 and was officially established in Guangzhou on August 23, 2024. The Third Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine serves as the lead institution, providing organizational and logistical support.

Prof. Hongbin Wang was recognized as a "Middle-aged and Young Leading Talent in Scientific and Technological Innovation" by the Ministry of Science and Technology (2016) and a leading talent in scientific and technological innovation under the National "Ten Thousand Talents Program" (2017). He received the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (2014), the Joint Fund for Regional Innovation and Development of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (2022), the First Prize of Teaching Achievement of Guangdong Province (2017, as first completer), and the Second Prize of Natural Science of Guangdong Science and Technology Award (2022, as first completer).
Prof. Wang has conducted systematic research on plant physiology and traditional Chinese medicine resource science. As a corresponding author, his research has been published in leading international professional journals such as Cell Host & Microbe, PNAS, The Plant Cell, Nature Communications, Molecular Plant, and Cell Reports. His work has attracted extensive attention, with papers selected as ESI Hot Papers and ESI Highly Cited Papers, recommended by F1000, and featured as cover articles, highlight papers, and annual focus papers. His research has also been reported and repeatedly featured in the "Fund News" of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.

Prof. Kewei Zhao currently serves as Director of Guangdong Engineering Research Center for Chinese Herbal Vesicles, Project Leader of the Guangdong Chinese Herbal Vesicles Pilot Platform, Director of the Department of Medical Laboratory/Transfusion/Pathology at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Director of the Guangzhou Key Laboratory of Chinese Medicine Osteoporosis Prevention and Control, and Director of the Department of Laboratory at Third Clinical Medical College, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine.
Prof. Zhao has long been devoted to basic research and clinical translation in the fields of Chinese herbal extracellular vesicles and bone metabolic diseases. He led the development and publication of the world's first bilingual (Chinese and English) Expert Consensus on the Research and Application of Chinese Herbal Vesicles (2023 Edition). He has published numerous high-impact papers related to Chinese herbal vesicles in journals such as Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, and Phytomedicine. He has applied for and obtained multiple related patents and PCTs, and has achieved technology transfer valued at 6.2 million RMB.
Over the past five years, Prof. Zhao has led 14 major national and provincial research projects. He has also mentored a provincial-level young top talent, a municipal young talent, and more than 30 postdoctoral, doctoral, and master's students, establishing a high-level talent team focused on the integration and innovation of Chinese and Western medicine.

Scope and Vision
The research and application of vesicles derived from Chinese herbal medicine represent an emerging interdisciplinary field that bridges traditional Chinese medicine and modern precision medicine, demonstrating vast developmental potential. The Committee is dedicated to advancing national progress in herbal extracellular vesicle research by promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and driving breakthroughs in basic research, translational medicine, and clinical applications. Additionally, the Committee aims to establish an international exchange platform to facilitate collaboration between Chinese researchers and global experts. By facilitating high-impact academic outputs, nurturing scientific talent, and enhancing China’s international influence in this domain, the Committee seeks to contribute Chinese expertise to the global advancement of plant-derived extracellular vesicle research.

Through this collaboration, we aim to cultivate a dynamic academic ecosystem that not only accelerates the discovery and translational application of herbal-derived vesicles, but also advances the broader field of extracellular vesicle science.
