On August 30, 2025, Energy Z held its inaugural online editorial board meeting via Zoom, with Editor-in-Chief Professor Yuping Wu fully participating and providing guidance, and Yang Xu, Publishing Executive at OAE, serving as the host. A total of 49 editorial board members from multiple countries and regions actively participated, engaging in discussions on the journal’s development strategy and academic vision.

The meeting featured in-depth exchanges on key topics such as journal positioning, academic quality assurance, special issue planning, and international outreach. Professor Wu reviewed the development and achievements of Energy Materials (EM) and explained the rationale for launching Energy Z: to establish a flagship journal at the forefront of emerging challenges in the energy field, with higher aspirations and broader impact. Energy Z will focus on energy storage, energy conversion, and their interrelated mechanisms, publishing a wide range of article types, including original research articles, reviews, frontier perspectives, short communications, and viewpoint papers.

Regarding Editor Board development, the inaugural team comprises 65 distinguished scholars from 13 countries and regions, including 18 academicians and 22 leading domestic talents such as recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and Changjiang Scholars. In addition, the first cohort of Youth Editorial Board Members has been established. The meeting underscored that this strong editorial team will be instrumental in ensuring high-quality publications and enhancing the journal’s global academic influence.

Participants actively contributed constructive suggestions on manuscript solicitation, promotion, international collaboration, and engagement with young scholars. Professor Wu summarized the feedback and provided guidance on the journal’s next steps.

The successful convening of this meeting laid a solid foundation for Energy Z’s initial publications, editorial standards, and promotional strategy, marking a significant milestone in academic exchange and internationalization. Energy Z plans to release its inaugural issue by the end of this year, adhering to a high-quality, selective publishing strategy, with the ambition of becoming a globally influential flagship journal in the energy field.
