Element Deputy Editor Charareh Pourzand Participates in the European Iron Club Meeting 2026
Prof. Charareh Pourzand, Deputy Editor of Element and a researcher at the University of Bath in the UK, participated in the European Iron Club Meeting 2026, held in Dublin, Ireland, June 18–20, 2026. The meeting brought together researchers in iron biology and metabolism to discuss recent advances and emerging research directions.

At the meeting, Prof. Pourzand presented her research entitled "Next Generation Hydroxypyridinone–Cy5 Mitochondrial Probe for Non-Invasive, Dynamic In Vivo Measurement of Labile Iron." The work focuses on developing advanced fluorescent probes for dynamic monitoring of labile iron in living systems, offering new approaches to investigating iron homeostasis and the role of iron in biological processes and disease.
Iron homeostasis is essential for numerous physiological processes, and its dysregulation is associated with a range of pathological conditions. Advances in tools for monitoring labile iron can help researchers investigate iron metabolism, oxidative stress, ferroptosis, and related disease mechanisms.
As Deputy Editor of Element, Prof. Pourzand contributes expertise in iron biology and metal-related research to the journal’s international editorial community.

Element is an international, peer-reviewed, gold open-access journal that focuses primarily on life sciences and medicine while also encompassing chemistry, engineering, materials science, agronomy, and related interdisciplinary fields. It welcomes innovative research exploring the biological functions of elements, metal homeostasis, elemental metabolism, disease mechanisms, and therapeutic strategies, and seeks to foster collaboration and advance research at the intersection of elements, biology, and human health.
