Element Convenes Editorial Board Meeting in Changchun to Advance Its Interdisciplinary Strategy

On April 12, 2026, the Second Editorial Board Meeting and the First Young Editorial Board Member Symposium of Element were held in Changchun, Jilin, China.

The meeting brought together Editorial Board Members and Young Editorial Board representatives from across the globe. It was chaired by Editor-in-Chief Prof. Fudi Wang. Associate Editors in attendance included Prof. David Chaim Rubinsztein (University of Cambridge, Cambridge, United Kingdom; Fellow of the Royal Society; Fellow of the UK Academy of Medical Sciences; Member of Academia Europaea), Prof. José Manuel Fernández-Real (Institut d'Investigació Biomèdica de Girona, Girona, Spain; Member of Academia Europaea), and Prof. Ashley Bush (The University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia; Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences; Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering).

Executive Editors Prof. Junxia Min (Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China) and Prof. Charareh Pourzand (University of Bath, Bath, UK) also participated, together with Editorial Board Members and Young Editorial Board representatives from China and other countries. Representatives from OAE Publishing Inc., including Publisher Jane Lee and Associate Publisher and Managing Editor of Element Ms. Victoria Lee, were also present.

Opening Remarks

Prof. Fudi Wang opened the meeting by expressing sincere appreciation to all participants for their continued support and contributions. He noted that Element is currently at a critical stage of development and reaffirmed the journal's commitment to advancing frontier areas of elemental science, fostering interdisciplinary integration, and building a high-impact international academic platform. He further emphasized that convening both the Editorial Board and Young Editorial Board meetings would help consolidate academic consensus, refine strategic priorities, and enhance the journal's global influence.

Associate Editor Prof. Ashley I. Bush highlighted the journal's role in bridging elemental science and translational medicine and expressed strong support for its continued international development.

Prof. David Chaim Rubinsztein shared insights from his research on neurodegenerative diseases and autophagy, and spoke highly of the journal's potential to foster interdisciplinary innovation.

Prof. José Manuel Fernández-Real discussed the significance of elemental science in understanding metabolic and endocrine diseases such as obesity and diabetes, and expressed confidence in the journal's future leadership in these areas.

Appointment Ceremony

During the meeting, Prof. Fudi Wang presented official appointment certificates to Associate Editors and Editorial Board Members, recognizing their contributions and responsibilities in guiding the journal's academic development.

Publisher's Address

Ms. Jane Lee, representing OAE Publishing Inc., emphasized that leading academic journals serve not only as platforms for disseminating high-quality research, but also as key hubs for global knowledge exchange and disciplinary advancement. She noted that Element represents a flagship initiative within the publisher's strategic portfolio, aimed at promoting interdisciplinary innovation, strengthening international collaboration, and building a globally influential scholarly platform.

In his keynote presentation, Prof. Fudi Wang outlined the journal's mission, vision, and development roadmap. The journal prioritizes the publication of original, high-quality, cross-disciplinary research addressing major scientific and societal challenges. Strengthening international engagement and expanding its diverse global authorship were identified as key priorities for future development.

Panel Discussion

Editorial Board Members engaged in in-depth discussions on enhancing publication quality, optimizing peer review processes, and strengthening editorial standards. A shared consensus emerged on maintaining rigorous evaluation criteria while improving efficiency and the overall author experience.
