ISZB President Prof. Richard Dyck Lectures on Zinc Neurobiology at Zhejiang University
On April 22, 2026, the Element Science Exploration Series, an academic initiative established by Element to promote international scientific exchange and collaboration in the fields of elemental biology and medicine, was held at the Zhejiang University School of Medicine in Hangzhou, China. The event was hosted by Prof. Fudi Wang and Prof. Junxia Min of Zhejiang University, with organizational support from Element.
Prof. Richard Dyck from the University of Calgary (Calgary, Canada), President of the International Society for Zinc Biology (ISZB), delivered a keynote lecture highlighting recent advances in zinc neurobiology, with a focus on vesicular zinc in hippocampal development, neural circuit maturation, and experience-dependent plasticity.
In his presentation, Prof. Dyck provided a comprehensive overview of emerging research on zinc signaling in synaptic transmission and its broader implications for brain function and regulation. He emphasized how vesicular zinc contributes to both the structural and functional development of the hippocampus, offering new insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying neural plasticity.

In addition, Prof. Dyck referenced the conceptual framework of "Zincology", proposed by Prof. Fudi Wang, highlighting it as a potential integrative approach to advancing zinc-related biological research.
