Seppo Salminen is a Professor, Director of the Functional Foods Forum, Faculty of Medicine, University of Turku, Turku, Finland. Prof. Salminen has published more than 400 scientific publications in food and health and food safety. He has been a forerunner in intestinal microbiota studies and probiotics and has served for 9 years in the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the Panel on Dietetic Products, Nutrition and Allergies (NDA) focusing on novel foods and foods and health claims. He has received several international prices for his work. He is also a member of the Finnish Academy of Sciences and Letters and serves currently as the Vice President of the ISAPP (International Scientific Association of Probiotics and Prebiotics). He has published over 400 peer-reviewed publications, 8 textbooks, and a large number of other publications. He has been invited to more than 100 international conferences and symposium lectures.
