Bio
Dr. Bianchi obtained the Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Pathology in April 2009 at the University of Parma, where he is now Assistant Professor of General Pathology at the Department of Medicine and Surgery, with teaching responsibilities in the Medical School. Since the beginning of his career, Dr. Bianchi’s interests have concerned the pathophysiology of amino acid membrane transport and the biological responses to nanomaterials of innate immune cells and epithelial barriers.
In recent years, Dr. Bianchi has studied the pro- and anti-inflammatory effects of natural and synthetic compounds (such as nanoplastics), with a particular attention to the interaction between bacterial products and human cells. Therefore, Dr. Bianchi has become increasingly interested in the human microbiota. The epithelial co-culture model, developed within this line of research and implementable with bacterial cultures, has already been used in several recent research contributions.
Dr. Bianchi has authored 75 scientific contributions on peer-reviewed international Journals, with an H Index of 24.
Research Interests:
Inflammation, Immunometabolism of glutamine, Immune cell and microbiota interaction, Gut epithelial cells and microbiota coculture, Nanocarriers for anti-inflammatory RNA-based therapy
