Bio
Dr. Fernando Alvarez graduated with honors from the Catholic University of Córdoba School of Medicine in Argentina. He trained in General Surgery at the Italian Hospital of Buenos Aires and later completed a Fellowship in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery and Liver Transplantation both at the Italian Hospital of Buenos Aires and the Hepato-biliary Institute (CHB) of the Paul Brousse Hospital in Paris. He also trained as Visiting Fellow in other renowned HPB units in the United States and Europe, and completed a Scholarship in Basic Research and Experimental Surgery at the Favaloro Foundation University Hospital in Buenos Aires. Since 2017 he serves as Chief of the Hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) Surgery Unit of the Queen Fabiola University Hospital and Associate Professor of Surgery of the Catholic University of Córdoba in Argentina. He also holds the position of Associate Surgeon of the HPB Surgery & Liver transplant Unit at the Italian Hospital of Buenos Aires. His clinical interest includes mainly benign and malignant diseases of the liver, bile duct, gallbladder, and pancreas, as well as adult and pediatric liver transplantation. Dr. Alvarez is an active Clinical Researcher, with over 50 scientific articles published in peer-review journals and 10 book chapters. He is also an active reviewer for many international journals and has recently co-edited the Book “Extreme Hepatic Surgery and Other Strategies” published by Springer International. Among other distinctions, Dr. Alvarez has been the recipient of the 2016 Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (AHPBA) travelling Fellowship Award, he received the Eduardo Beláustegui Award from the Argentine Surgical Association in 2008, the Annual Award from the Argentine Academy of Surgery in 2014 and the Annual Award from the Argentine Surgical Association in 2015 and 2018. He is Member of the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHPBA), the Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (AHPBA), the Society of General Surgeons of Peru, the Argentine Surgical Association and the Córdoba Surgical Association.
