Special Interview with Prof. Stuart Harrad
On July 15, 2026, the editorial team of Journal of Environmental Exposure Assessment (JEEA) conducted a special interview hosted by Jheng-Jie Jiang (Chung Yuan Christian University, Taoyuan, Taiwan). The interview invited Prof. Stuart Harrad (University of Birmingham, Birmingham, UK), the Editor-in-Chief of JEEA, to celebrate the journal’s first official Impact Factor. Prof. Harrad shared his founding philosophy, core research directions, current advances in exposure science, as well as his long-term strategic plans for JEEA's future development.
Prof. Harrad explained that JEEA was established to provide a dedicated platform for environmental exposure assessment, addressing a critical gap in research on exposure measurement, multi-pathway exposure characterization, and risk translation. He also highlighted his group's work on human exposure to persistent and emerging pollutants, particularly dermal exposure assessment using advanced in vitro skin models.
Looking ahead, Prof. Harrad identified mixed pollutant toxicity, artificial intelligence, and big data analytics as key future directions in exposure science. He emphasized JEEA's commitment to publishing high-quality research on both human and wildlife environmental exposure assessment and expressed confidence that the journal's first Impact Factor will further strengthen its international visibility and accelerate its goal of becoming a leading journal in environmental science.

About Prof. Stuart Harrad
Prof. Stuart Harrad, from School of Geography, Earth, and Environmental Sciences, University of Birmingham, UK. He is an internationally recognized expert in environmental exposure science, with more than 30 years of research experience focusing on persistent organic pollutants (POPs), per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), flame retardants, and multi-pathway human exposure assessment. His research spans pollutant sources, environmental fate, human exposure pathways, and health risk assessment. Throughout his career, Prof. Harrad has led numerous internationally funded research projects and made significant contributions to advancing exposure assessment methodologies, exposome science, and the translation of environmental research into public health policy and environmental regulation.
About Dr. Jheng-Jie Jiang
Dr. Jheng-Jie Jiang is at Chung Yuan Christian University, Taiwan. His research interests include environmental exposure assessment, environmental chemistry, exposure modeling, and human health risk assessment, particularly the occurrence, transport, and health impacts of emerging environmental contaminants. He has actively promoted interdisciplinary research and international collaboration in environmental health and exposure science.
