Special Interview with Prof. Yuli Huang
On August 28, 2026, the Journal of Cardiovascular Aging (JCA) conducted a special interview with Prof. Yuli Huang from Southern Medical University, China, hosted by Dr. Feng Xiao from Wuxi People's Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing Medical University, China.
During the interview, Prof. Huang shared his perspectives on the links between metabolic disorders, cardiovascular disease, and cardiovascular aging. He discussed how metabolic abnormalities, mitochondrial dysfunction, inflammation, and cardiac energy metabolic reprogramming contribute to heart failure and cardiovascular aging, while highlighting the importance of integrating clinical observations with basic and translational research.
Looking ahead, Prof. Huang highlighted three major directions for his research group: multi-omics and precision subtyping, translating mitochondrial research into clinical applications, and AI- and digital health-assisted cardiovascular disease prevention. He also emphasized the importance of understanding metabolic - immune interactions and exploring strategies to prevent or potentially modify cardiovascular aging. He believes that integrating multi-omics, artificial intelligence, digital health, and translational research may provide new opportunities for moving cardiovascular aging research toward more precise and personalized prevention and treatment.

About Prof. Yuli Huang:
Prof. Yuli Huang is a professor of cardiology at the Eighth affliated hospital, Southern Medical University. He is also the senior honorary research fellow at the George Institute for Global Health, Australia. He majored in pathogenesy and therapeutics for cardiometabolic disease; risk factors of cardiovascular disease; epidemiology of cardiovascular disease and metabolic therapy for heart failure. As the leading author, he has published more than 100 publications including BMJ (3 papers), Neurology (2 papers), BMC medicine. The total citations of Dr Huang’s publications are up to 8700 and the H index is 47 on August 2026. Fifteen of his publications were cited by multiple international clinical guidelines, including the 2017ACC/AHA hypertension guideline, 2018 ESC hypertension guideline, ADA diabetes guideline (from 2019-2026, 8 editions). Seven publications were published with editorial comments. Dr Huang is the Member of Committee of Chinese Cardiovascular Association; Editorial Board Member of Journal of Geriatric Cardiology; Guest associated chief editor of Frontiers in cardiovascular medicine, Frontiers in bioscience-landmark; Reviewer for The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, EHJ, BMJ, international Journal of Epidemiology, American Journal of Kidney Disease (100+ SCI journals).
About Dr. Feng Xiao:
Dr. Feng Xiao, MD, PhD, is a postdoctoral researcher and a candidate for future academic leadership in the Department of Cardiology at Wuxi People’s Hospital, China. He is a recipient of the first and second “Double Hundred” Young and Mid-Career Medical Talent Programs of Wuxi and serves as a Young Editorial Board Member for several SCI-indexed journals, including Reviews in Cardiovascular Medicine and The Journal of Cardiovascular Aging. His research focuses on the clinical and basic investigation of common cardiovascular diseases, including tachyarrhythmias, bradyarrhythmias, coronary artery disease, and valvular heart disease. He has led eight research projects at various levels, including a Youth Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and has published more than 20 articles in SCI-indexed and Chinese core journals.
