Special Interview with Prof. Naranjan S. Dhalla
On July 19, 2024, the Editorial Office of The Journal of Cardiovascular Aging (JCA) conducted an interview with Prof. Naranjan S. Dhalla, Distinguished Professor of Physiology and Pathophysiology at the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba, and Senior Advisory Editor of JCA. Prof. Dhalla, a founding leader of the International Society of Heart Research (ISHR) and the International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences (IACS), reflected on pivotal moments in his career and the challenges he faced while establishing and leading prominent cardiovascular research institutions, sharing how he overcame these obstacles to promote scientific excellence and innovation.

About Prof. Naranjan S. Dhalla:

Prof. Naranjan S. Dhalla is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology at the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba, and Director of Cardiovascular Developments at the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, St. Boniface Hospital Albrechtsen Research Centre, Winnipeg, Canada. He is a leading expert in cardiovascular pathophysiology, with a focus on understanding the causes of cardiac dysfunction. Prof. Dhalla has made significant contributions to our understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying heart disease, including the role of oxidative stress, changes in gene expression, and intracellular calcium overload. He has published over 875 papers and has edited or authored over 68 books. Prof. Dhalla has received 216 honours and awards, including Fellowship of the Royal Society of Canada, Membership of the Order of Canada, and Order of Manitoba. He has been inducted into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame and the Citizen Hall of Fame in Winnipeg. Prof. Dhalla is also a founding leader of the International Society of Heart Research and the International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences.
