Bio
Jiaping Wu is a professor of the Ocean College/Ocean Academy, Zhejiang University, where he also serves as the Chief Scientist, Joint Center for Blue Carbon Study. He had been an adjunct professor with the University of Western Australia between 2012 and 2015. Professor Wu's research focuses on Coastal Blue Carbon, Coastal Environment Protection and Ecosystem Conservation, and Geospatial Informatics. His team has characterized the features of mangrove forest and saltmarshes on carbon sequestrations potentials, macrobenthos and microbial communities, the trapping effects on particles along with more than 10 geochemical elements, PAHs and microplastics in Zhejiang areas. He has also revealed multiple environmental and ecological co-benefits of seaweeds. In addition, his team has generated approaches to accurately map the coastal blue carbon systems in the vast coastal regions and developed the maps of mangrove forests, saltmarshes, seagrasses and cultured seaweeds in coastal China for the past 35 years. He has published six books and more 180 journal papers.
