Figure 5. Fossa endoscopy in the dog and cat. A transoral approach is performed through the soft palate to reach the ventral aspect of the sphenoid bone. Following burring at the correct location, the pituitary mass is extracted from the fossa. A rigid angled telescope can be used to visualize and support the approach and course of hypophysectomy, and when introduced inside the fossa, to assess neural and vascular structures and completeness of tumor resection.
