Proposed therapeutic mechanisms through the microbiota-gut-brain axis include restoration of intestinal physiology, suppression of gut inflammation, preservation of blood-brain barrier integrity, inhibition of α-synuclein aggregation, regulation of neuroinflammation, and reduction of dopaminergic neuronal loss.
