Atherosclerosis develops as a result of a chain of events including impaired vascular hemodynamics, endothelial dysfunction, dyslipidemia, systemic inflammation, and oxidative stress. These factors promote inflammation involving various cells in both the vascular wall and the peripheral blood flow.
