Special Issue Introduction
The emerging contaminants include Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products, Microplastics, Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals, Nanoparticles, Disinfection byproducts, etc.. Due to their ubiquity and potential ecotoxicological consequences, emerging contaminates have become the focus of increasing attention and research. The wastewater treatment plant is an important sink, barrier, and source of emerging contaminates for the receiving waters. Thus, the fate of emerging contaminants during wastewater treatment is currently a subject of major concern ,and it is very important to improve our full understanding of the occurrence, removal, interaction, and toxicity of these emerging contaminants during wastewater treatment.
In this Special Issue, "Fate of Emerging Contaminants during Wastewater Treatment", a broad selection of topics will be covered, including the development of analytical methodologies, studying the occurrence, removal, interaction, and toxicity of these emerging contaminants during the wastewater treatment, assessing their effects on the eco-environment in the receiving waters. This Special Issue is expected to make a positive contribution to the collection of key knowledge and insights on the fate and risk of emerging contaminates, with the participation of researchers worldwide, to better ascertain the present status of emerging pollution and to identify knowledge gaps and future challenges.
Proposed topics include, but are not limited to:
1. Advanced quantitative analysis of emerging contaminants (such as the PPCP, Microplastics, Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals, Nanoparticles, and Disinfection byproducts) in wastewater;
2. Occurrence of emerging contaminants in wastewater;
3. Removal of emerging contaminants during the wastewater treatment process;
4. Interaction and toxicity of emerging contaminants on the biological wastewater treatment;
5. Fate of emerging contaminants in biological wastewater treatment or sludge treatment;
6. Understanding of emerging contaminants on the subsequent risks to ecosystems with the discharged effluent in receiving waters;
etc.
