Professor Yang serves as a Professor and Director of the Department of Pharmacy at Shanghai Sixth People’s Hospital Affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. His research focuses on the metabolic mechanisms of cancer cachexia and skeletal muscle atrophy in patients with advanced malignancies. He is dedicated to developing metabolism-based therapeutic strategies to improve the management of muscle atrophy, while actively promoting clinical research and translation. Professor Yang has authored or co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed papers in high-impact international journals, which have garnered more than 2,500 citations. He has been recognized by several prestigious talent programs, including the Shanghai Pujiang Talent Program, the Outstanding Young Medical Talent Program of the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission, and the Young Elite Talent Program of the Hospital Pharmacy Committee of the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association. In recognition of his contributions to biomedical and pharmaceutical research, he has received the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award and the Beijing Medical Science and Technology Award.

Prof. Scherman has long been committed to bridging basic research and clinical translation. His work spans molecular biology, genetics, nanomaterials, and biomedical engineering, with particular emphasis on gene therapy, RNA interference, nanomedicine delivery, and luminescent nanoparticles for analytical biosensors and imaging. As of 2025, he has authored over 575 publications indexed in Web of Science, with an H-index of 77 and more than 27,000 citations. His contributions have been recognized with numerous prestigious awards, including the Emilia Valori Prize from the French Academy of Sciences, the Main Grand Prize from the French National Academy of Medicine, the Silver Medal of the French National Centre for Scientific Research, the Neurobiology Prize of the Foundation for Medical Research, and the Ordre des Palmes Académiques.
