Special Issue Introduction

Membrane separation technology has emerged as a cutting-edge solution to the escalating global challenge of water pollution, particularly in the removal of micro- and nanoplastics from drinking water and wastewater. This Special Issue explores the pivotal roles of ultrafiltration (UF) and nanofiltration (NF) in enhancing water quality by effectively removing contaminants at micro- and nanoscale levels. As concerns over plastic and rubber particle pollution intensify, membrane technologies offer scalable, energy-efficient, and cost-effective approaches to ensuring cleaner and safer water supplies.

The issue highlights recent advancements in membrane materials, antifouling strategies, and process optimization, with applications spanning both municipal and industrial water treatment systems. Featured contributions will showcase innovations aimed at enhancing selectivity, permeability, and sustainability, bridging the gap between laboratory-scale research and real-world implementation. Through experimental studies, theoretical analyses, and case applications, this collection fosters interdisciplinary discussion on overcoming current technical limitations and advancing the future of membrane-based water purification.

We invite researchers to submit original studies and reviews that explore the potential of membrane technologies to transform water treatment, delivering environmental and economic benefits for a more sustainable future.

Keywords
