Special Issue Introduction

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a nontechnical, popular term that refers to machine learning of various types but most often deep neural networks. Cardiology is at the forefront of AI in medicine. AI has made major achievements in recent years in nearly all areas of cardiology, including echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, electrophysiology, CAD detection, coronary angiography, interventional cardiology, and heart failure. In particular, AI is particularly useful in heart failure pathophysiology, precision medicine, and novel treatments. However, AI is susceptible to major errors in interpretation, validity, generalizability, rising safety, and ethical concerns that need to be addressed in advance. Therefore, this Special Issue aims to bring together leading experts around the world to further explore the role of AI in identifying and interpreting cardiovascular disease.
