Special Topic Introduction

Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of mortality worldwide, with nearly 90% of cases attributed to vascular pathology. Vascular homeostasis is fundamental for maintaining organ perfusion, whereas its disruption drives maladaptive remodeling, leading to vasomotor dysfunction, multi-organ injury, and serious threats to human health.

This Special Issue focuses on mechanistic insights into vascular homeostasis and pathological remodeling. Topics will include the regulation and disruption of vascular stability in major conditions such as coronary artery disease, stroke, pulmonary hypertension, aortic aneurysm, ocular vascular disorders, and peripheral ischemic diseases. It will also explore the contribution of vascular dysfunction to other critical conditions, including cancer, diabetic vascular complications, chronic kidney disease, and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease. Particular emphasis will be placed on the roles of vascular smooth muscle cells, endothelial cells, and immune cells in tension regulation, structural remodeling, and immune imbalance. By uncovering key signaling networks and potential therapeutic targets, this issue aims to provide new insights and innovative strategies for the prevention and treatment of vascular diseases.

1. Epidemiology and Risk Factors of Vascular Diseases: Global trends and regional disparities;

2. Gut Microbiota in Vascular Injury and Related Diseases;
