Special Issue Introduction

The altering of the male genitalia has long been part of many cultures and subcultures as a show of fertility, religion, distinction or even as punishment. However, not until the first world war has the reconstruction of the male genital been diligently documented and refined. The field of expertise that deals with the (re)construction of the male genitalia has gone from being a side show, only done by a few seemingly frivolous operations, to an ever-growing body of work and an integral part of plastic/urologic and reconstructive surgery. From penile enlargement to foreskin reconstructions, phalloplasty's in transmen and in congenital abnormalities to penile transplantation in traumatic penile amputations, this field is forever expanding and challenging us to become inventive, think outside the box but still keep the patients' best interest in mind.
For this reason, we would like to invite you, the leading surgeons in this field, to contribute to this Special Issue "Latest Advances in Penile Reconstruction" with original research and showcase the wealth of knowledge gathered in this field.
We're sure that together we can make this issue a great success.
