Topic: Art and Science of Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate Repair

Patients born with a cleft of the lip and/or palate require many different and appropriately sequenced treatment interventions over a prolonged time period. Care is tailored to the patients' needs and is coordinated and rendered by a team of specialists. Over the years, there have been many advances in the diagnostic and treatment modalities associated with care and treatment of these patients. However, despite these advances, patients often need repeated or revisionary treatments, especially related to surgical care. In this issue, several topics related to primary surgical repair and subsequent revision surgery will be discussed including on-going research initiatives. The focus will be on newer diagnostic techniques, treatment approaches, and modalities.
