Special Topic Introduction

The field of periorbital surgery is undergoing a significant paradigm shift, moving beyond traditional skin-centric approaches toward a nuanced integration of functional stability and aesthetic harmony. Given the eye’s dual role as the centerpiece of facial expression and a critical safeguard for ocular health, surgical intervention in this region demands an exacting standard of anatomical precision.

This Special Issue focuses on the correction of functional eyelid disorders, specifically blepharoptosis and upper eyelid retraction. These procedures require meticulous surgical planninganatomical precision to restore physiological lid height and symmetry while preserving the vital health of the ocular surface. In addition, the present issue addresses the growing challenge of postoperative complications. With the global rise in aesthetic eyelid procedures, clinicians are increasingly confronted with complex iatrogenic sequelae that require advanced corrective strategies. Accordingly, the issue highlights advanced revision protocols aimed at restoring both function and appearance in these high-stakes cases. Finally, it explores recent innovations in periorbital rejuvenation. By synthesizing surgical breakthroughs with non-surgical modalities—such as injectable treatments and laser-based therapies—this issue offers a holistic approach to achieving natural and harmonious rejuvenation outcomes.

By bridging functional restoration with aesthetic refinement, this Special Issue provides an essential academic resource for clinicians and researchers seeking to optimizing patient care in the rapidly evolving landscape of periorbital surgery.
