Topic: Progress and Perspectives in Breast Augmentation Surgery

Breast augmentation remains one of the most frequently performed aesthetic procedures worldwide, continuously evolving to meet patient expectations, advances in implant technology, and refinements in surgical technique. Plastic surgeons must skillfully balance aesthetic precision with scientific rigor, navigating complex decisions about implant type, placement plane, incision approach, and adjunctive procedures such as fat grafting or mastopexy. At the same time, long-term considerations—ranging from capsular contracture to breast implant illness (BII) and breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL)—have prompted critical reevaluation of device safety, surveillance protocols, and standards for informed consent.

This Special Issue brings together leading voices in aesthetic surgery to explore these multifaceted topics with both clinical depth and forward-thinking perspective. Contributions will cover a wide spectrum, including the biomechanics and biocompatibility of next-generation implants, algorithmic approaches to revision surgery, and the role of imaging and preoperative simulation in shared decision making.
