Special Issue Introduction

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) threatens human and animal health and welfare, the environment, food and nutrition security and safety, economic development and equity within societies. The large-scale use of antimicrobials in farms not only increases the potential presence of their residues in food and the environment, but also leads to a greater probability of AMR generation and spreading. Additionally, environmental contamination with antibiotics and resistant bacteria amplifies the potential for AMR transmission through the food chain. It's essential to adopt a One Health approach that acknowledges the interconnectedness of human health, animal health, and environmental health in devising effective strategies to combat antibiotic resistance and ensure the safety and sustainability of food systems worldwide. This special issue welcomes research article, review, commentary, perspective, short communication, opinion, etc.
