Special Issue Introduction

The rapid emergence of resistant pathogens has been steadily increasing for decades, posing a threat to health systems, farming practices, animal rearing, and the environment. Given the important and interdependent human, animal, and environmental dimensions of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), it is absolutely necessary to adopt a One Health approach to research and policy in order to optimize Antimicrobial Stewardship. Addressing AMR entails not only developing novel therapies against deadly pathogens but also safeguarding biodiversity and promoting agricultural practices that prioritize the prudent use of antimicrobials.

We welcome submissions on the selected topics and beyond. The Special Issue covers the following topics, relevant but not limited to:

1. Improving awareness and understanding of AMR;

2. Implementing antimicrobial Stewardship activities to restrain AMR in hospital settings;

3. Promoting awareness and emphasizing the importance of the One Health approach in addressing AMR;

4. Extending antimicrobial Stewardship activities beyond public health, as an economic and a development challenge.
