Special Topic Introduction
The rapid development of micro- and nanoscale materials, fabrication technology, and interface engineering is reshaping the landscape of biosensing and bioelectronics. By enabling precise control over device dimensions, surface chemistry, molecular interactions, and tissue-device interfaces, micro/nano technology provides unique opportunities to improve sensitivity, selectivity, mechanical conformability, and system integration. These advances are particularly important for the development of wearable, minimally invasive and implantable platforms that can acquire dynamic physiological and molecular information in real time. Despite significant progress, major challenges remain in translating micro/nano biosensing technologies toward precision health, including: maintaining stable and selective biointerfaces in complex biological environments; minimizing biofouling and mechanical mismatch; achieving reliable continuous monitoring and multiplexed monitoring; integrating sensing components with power supplies, electronics and wireless communication modules; and ensuring reproducibility, scalability, and clinical relevance.
This special issue "Micro/Nano Biosensing and Biointerfaces for Precision Health" aims to highlight the latest progress in the intersection of micro/nano engineering, biosensing and biointerface science. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: micro- and nanostructured sensing interfaces, wearable biosensors, microneedle-based sensing systems, electrochemical biosensors, optical biosensing, microfluidic and lab-on-a-chip biosensing, point-of-care diagnostics, molecular recognition interfaces, soft bioelectronics, self-powered sensing systems, multiplexed monitoring, AI-enabled biosensing and signal analysis, and integrated platforms for personalized and precision health. Both fundamental studies and translational research addressing emerging challenges in next-generation biosensing technologies are welcome.
