Special Issue Introduction

Minerals are the fundamental units and key environmental elements of the Earth system, crucial for human survival and development. Developed from raw materials or based on an understanding of mineral principles, mineral materials play an indispensable role in industrial, economic, and social development. In recent years, the environmental and water pollution problems caused by various types of industrial wastewater, such as printing and dyeing, chemicals, electroplating, mining, smelting, petrochemicals, machining, pharmaceuticals, and municipal sources, have become increasingly prominent. Researchers have developed diverse methods such as adsorption, membrane filtration, chemical oxidation, biological treatment, and advanced oxidation processes to efficiently dispose of and treat water pollution. Among them, utilizing mineral resources, such as diatomite, kaolinite, montmorillonite, sepiolite, halloysite, etc.,  along with the secondary resources with huge reserves and low costs, to develop new mineral materials for wastewater treatment through strategies such as compounding, modification, and crystal form regulation, is of great significance for resource efficiency and sustainable development. Additionally, it promotes green, efficient, and clean treatment of industrial wastewater.

The Special Issue of Minerals and Mineral Materials aims to present state-of-the-art developments and reports of mineral materials for wastewater treatment. We have invited contributions from leading groups in the field to offer a balanced view of this discipline. The subareas to be discussed in this Special Issue include:
1. Preparation of non-metallic mineral materials;
2. Preparation of metal-based mineral materials;
3. Mineral-based adsorbent materials;
4. Mineral-based catalytic materials;
5. Mineral-based flocculation materials;
6. Mineral-based filter materials;
7. Mineral-based ion exchange materials;
8. Mineral materials for advanced oxidation processes;
9. Mineral materials for biofilm carriers;
10. Application of minerals in organic wastewater treatment;
11. Application of minerals in heavy metal wastewater treatment;
12. Application of minerals in inorganic anion wastewater treatment;
13. Preparation of materials derived from solid waste resources;
14. Solid waste resources-based materials for wastewater treatment.

This Special Issue welcomes original research articles, short communications, and review articles.
