Special Issue Introduction

The interdisciplinary nature of surface and interface chemistry makes it a key enabler for developing innovative strategies to address the challenges associated with complex ore bodies and dwindling high-grade mineral resources. By delving into the fundamental principles of surface and interface chemistry that govern the complex interactions between minerals, reagents, and solutions, a deeper understanding of the underlying mechanisms that govern mineral separation and element extraction at the molecular level can be attained. The rapid advancement of nanomechanical techniques, such as Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Surface Force Apparatus (SFA), has facilitated a shift from qualitative characterization to quantitative measurement in surface and interface chemistry studies. Nonetheless, bridging the gap between these test results and practical mineral separation and metal enrichment tests remains a formidable challenge.

This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive platform to disseminate cutting-edge research and advance in applying surface and interface chemistry to the fields of mineral separation and element extraction, which cover a wide range of topics, including but not limited to:
● Advanced surface and interface analytical techniques used in mineral separation and element extraction;
● Applications of advanced quantum chemistry and molecular dynamics simulations in mineral separation and element extraction;
● Novel approaches for enhancing the efficiency and selectivity of interfacial processes;
● Computational modeling and experimental methodologies to unravel the complexities of interfacial reactions;
● Other relevant aspects of surface and interface chemistry applied to mineral separation and element extraction, such as surface modification techniques and reagent design.

The Special Issue welcomes original research articles, short communications, and review articles.
