Special Issue Introduction

Our understanding of X and Y chromosomal variations and their neurodevelopmental manifestations is continually evolving, necessitating the ongoing dissemination of these findings to clinicians and scientists worldwide. As research progresses and awareness grows regarding the prevalence of these disorders, it is imperative to build upon past knowledge to advance into the future and broaden our understanding. This Special Issue delves into various topics spanning genetics and neurodevelopment, expounding on the intricate link between behavior, brain function, and genetics.

From exploring innovative therapies aimed at enhancing function to examining the complex interplay among environmental factors, androgen deficiencies, and familial genetic influence, to underscoring the importance of optimal care from a hormonal perspective, and to investigating the functional variability observed among boys and girls with additional X and Y chromosomes, this era of research has ushered us into a new age of diagnostic technology, improving our ability and accuracy in the prenatal diagnosis of X and Y chromosomal variations. This issue endeavors to explore the insights gained from these advancements, the shifts in treatment approaches, and the ongoing quest to enhance our ability to identify, manage, and optimize outcomes for children with Sex Chromosome Aneuploidies (SCA). The overarching aim of this Special Issue is to further enhance our understanding and encourage a comprehensive exploration of these disorders from various perspectives, including genetic, biological, psychological, developmental, and physiological angles, among others.
