Special Issue Introduction
The Special Issue "Development of Cancer Stem Cells" delves into the rapidly evolving field of cancer stem cell research. Cancer stem cells are the seed cells for tumor development and relapse, which play key roles in tumor progression and treatment resistance. Targeted therapy of cancer stem cells is considered a potential treatment direction in the future. This issue aims to elucidate the latest advancements in understanding the biology of cancer stem cells (CSCs), their contributions to tumor progression, and their implications for treatment resistance. It will cover a range of topics including the identification and isolation of CSCs, the molecular and cellular mechanisms governing their self-renewal and differentiation, and their role in promoting tumor heterogeneity. Moreover, the issue will explore the therapeutic implications of targeting CSCs. Despite significant progress in cancer treatment, the eradication of CSCs remains a major challenge due to their inherent resistance to conventional therapies. Therefore, comprehending the unique properties of CSCs could pave the way for the development of more effective cancer therapies. This Special Issue will provide novel insights into the progression of cancer stem cells, serving as an excellent platform for researchers, clinicians, and academicians interested in cancer stem cell research to share their findings and advance this critical area of study.
The topics we focus on in this Special Issue include:
● The Role of Cancer Stem Cells in Tumor Heterogeneity;
