Special Issue Introduction

Glioblastoma (GB) remains one of the most aggressive malignant tumors, with limited treatment options available. During the last decades, extensive research into the molecular mechanisms underlying GB development and progression has revealed many potential targets for the development of new treatment strategies. However, their clinical implementation is still insufficient, highlighting the pressing need for continued efforts in this direction. A deeper understanding of the mechanisms and molecular pathways governing GB progression and relapse is imperative to enhance the effectiveness of GB treatment and improve patient survival.

In this Special Issue, we invite reviews and original articles that delve into both fundamental studies on the molecular bases of GB progression and innovative perspectives on drugs or strategies for its treatment.

Topics include, but are not limited to:
● Molecular mechanisms of GB development;
● High heterogeneity of GB cells and their clonal evolution during GB progression;
● Role of tumor microenvironment in GB initiation and progression;
● Comparative study of the primary and recurrent GB tumors to investigate their molecular evolution towards the relapsed disease;

● A role of side effects of the systemic first-line anti-GB therapy (chemotherapy, radiotherapy) in the GB relapse development;

● Development and implementation of neuroprotective drugs to reduce the side effects of the therapy;

● New potential drugs or treatment strategies for anti-GB therapy;

● New carriers and strategies for drug delivery across the blood-brain barrier.
