Special Issue Introduction
The Special Issue "Updates in Underwater Robotics" serves as a platform that brings together diverse perspectives and innovative research in the field of underwater vehicles, drawing contributions from leading researchers all over the world. With the advancement of ocean research and marine resource exploration, underwater vehicles have gained prominence, assuming a pivotal role in various marine missions, including deep-sea resource exploration, ocean observation, environmental monitoring, offshore inspection, surveillance, and reconnaissance. This compilation of articles delves into novel techniques and advancements that shape the future of underwater vehicles. Explored topics encompass innovative and frontier research in control design, autonomous navigation, and cooperative control for underwater robotics, emphasizing sensor fusion techniques, sonar and image target detection technologies, path planning algorithms, and machine learning methods aimed at optimizing underwater exploration and data collection.
