Special Issue Introduction

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), often diagnosed at advanced stages, has undergone a paradigm shift in its therapeutic landscape. Recent studies presented a comprehensive exploration of the latest advancements in the field of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with a focus on the prevention and treatment of recurrence and metastasis post liver transplantation. This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for researchers, clinicians, and experts to share their insights, breakthroughs, and innovative approaches to address the challenges associated with HCC recurrence after liver transplantation.

Liver transplantation stands as a beacon of hope for individuals grappling with HCC, offering a second chance at life. However, the specter of recurrence and metastasis remains a formidable hurdle in achieving long-term success. With the global population of patients undergoing liver transplantation for HCC on the rise, the issue of tumor recurrence is poised to impact an escalating number of individuals, yet it remains an area that has been understudied to date.

This Special Issue endeavors to bridge the knowledge gap by showcasing cutting-edge research that delves into novel preventive measures and effective treatment strategies to improve patient outcomes.

As we embark on this journey, we invite contributions from esteemed researchers and experts in the field to share their valuable insights, groundbreaking studies, and clinical experiences. Together, we strive to enhance our collective understanding and refine the arsenal of tools available in the fight against HCC recurrence and metastasis after liver transplantation.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Advancements in Immunosuppressive Strategies to Mitigate HCC Recurrence Post-Transplantation;
2. Molecular Mechanism of HCC Metastasis following Liver Transplant;
3. Risk Factors for Post-transplant Recurrence;
4. Role of Radiological Imaging in Early Detection and Monitoring of HCC Recurrence;
5. An Optimal Surveillance Strategy: Role of Novel Biomarkers following Liver Transplant for HCC;
6. Incorporating Biomarkers for Prognostication and Early Intervention in Recurrent HCC;
7. Surgical Innovations for Minimizing Recurrence Risk in Liver Transplantation for HCC;
8. Adjuvant Therapies and Their Impact on Long-Term Survival in HCC Transplant Recipients;
9. Understanding the Tumor Microenvironment: Implications for Recurrence and Metastasis;
10. Updates in Donor Selection Criteria to Improve Outcomes in HCC Liver Transplantation;
