Special Issue Introduction
The imperative of achieving 'carbon peaking and carbon neutrality', coupled with the enactment of initiatives such as the 'Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)' and 'Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)', underscores the critical need for enterprises to curtail carbon emissions. In this context, green and low-carbon design and manufacturing emerge as pivotal in diminishing corporate carbon footprints, a stride of significant consequence for the evolution of manufacturing. Predominant research and application in green design and manufacturing have been largely circumscribed to individual tools and methods, with a palpable deficiency in integrated system platforms. Fortuitously, burgeoning interest is being accorded to the advancement of methodologies, technologies for green and low-carbon data analysis, evaluation, design, and manufacturing, as well as the development of corresponding software tools and integration platforms. These endeavors are aimed at the systematic infusion of green design principles into the extant design paradigms within enterprises. Henceforth, this Special Issue will invite contributions that concentrate on, but are not restricted to, the ensuing topics in this domain, welcoming both original research articles and reviews:
● Methods and technologies for green and low-carbon design;
● Digital twin-driven approaches to green and low-carbon design and manufacturing;
● Data analytics and evaluation techniques for green and low-carbon design and manufacturing;
● Lifecycle assessments in green and low-carbon design, manufacturing and remanufacturing;
● Development of databases, intelligent algorithms and software tools specific to green and low-carbon design;
● Platforms for the integration of green and low-carbon initiatives;
● Knowledge-based green design to inform sustainable design decisions and processes.
