Special Issue Introduction

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have attracted increasing attention in biomedical investigation and translational research. They have been broadly scrutinized as appealing diagnostic tools by sampling biological fluids, as well as potential theranostics and innovative investigational drugs. Furthermore, in regenerative medicine, EVs fuel increasing expectations as candidate cell-free therapeutics for a variety of applications for tissue repair and/or against inflammatory-based and ischemic disease, traumatic injury, fibrosis and neurological disorders.

This Special Issue aims to collect research articles/reviews/new insights covering but not limited to the following sub-topics:
● The role of EVs in enhancing tissue repair and tissue engineering strategies;
● Paracrine modulation of endogenous mechanisms of regeneration by EVs released by human progenitor/stem cells;
● Biodistribution of EV formulations for therapeutic treatment;
● Optimizing delivery systems for EV administration and controlled release by smart biomaterials;
● Improving EV targeting specificity for therapeutic applications.
