Special Issue Introduction
Emerging pollutants (EPs) - including pharmaceuticals, personal care products, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), microplastics, and endocrine-disrupting compounds- pose an increasing threat to global water resources and human health.
Conventional water treatment systems are often inadequate for effectively removing these persistent and bioactive contaminants. This Special Issue aims to showcase cutting-edge research on innovative removal mechanisms and advanced treatment technologies for EPs in water and wastewater systems.
We invite submissions that explore novel materials, processes, and integrated approaches for the efficient and sustainable elimination of EPs. Priority will be given to studies that elucidate the mechanisms of EP removal, evaluate the performance and scalability of advanced treatment technologies, and address challenges in real-world applications.
The ultimate goal of this issue is to advance the development and implementation of effective strategies to safeguard water quality and mitigate the risks posed by emerging pollutants.
Keywords
