Special Issue Introduction

Photocatalysis technology has been regarded as one of the most promising "green" strategies for dealing with the ever-increasing global fossil fuel shortage and related environmental pollution. More importantly, it provides an ideal way for solar energy conversion, storage, and utilization. In this approach, solar fuels and chemicals can be synthesized, especially H2 evolution through photocatalytic water splitting and the production of high-value hydrocarbon fuels via CO2 reduction. Herein, the design and development of highly efficient semiconductor photocatalysts, integrated photocatalytic systems, and novel reaction processes have been at the forefront of this research field, with remarkable progress achieved to date. Therefore, this Special Issue of "Photocatalysts for Solar Fuels and Chemicals Synthesisaims to gather current scientific advancements, including original research papers, reviews, and commentaries, in this area. Perspectives on the production of solar fuels and chemicals through photocatalysis are also welcome.

The following specific areas to be covered include, but are not limited to:

● Photocatalysts synthesis;

● Photocatalytic water splitting;

● Photocatalytic CO2 reduction;
● Photocatalytic methane conversion;

● Photocatalytic N2 fixation;

● Biomass conversion;

● Fine chemicals production;

● Photocatalysis coupled with thermocatalysis;

● Advanced characterization techniques for photocatalysts.

Keywords

Photocatalysis, water splitting, CO2 reduction, solar fuels, chemicals, hydrogen, biomass, artificial photosynthesis
