Special Topic Introduction
C1 molecules, a class of smallest molecules, including CO, CO2, MeOH, RNC, CH4, CH2O, etc., plays crucial roles in the preparation of fine chemicals. From academic point of view, their activation and transformation are also attractive. Carboxylic acid derivatives can be readily produced from the reactions with CO or CO2. Methanol can used both as carbon source and hydrogen source. Isonitrile is a kind of electronic and steric properties tunable C1 source. The activation methane is challenge due to its high bond energy. Each of the C1 molecules, they all have their own characters and advantages. Then merged with reaction partners, various activation methods (thermal, photochemistry, electrochemistry, etc.), and numerous catalytic systems (metal catalyst, organocatalyst, homogeneous, heterogeneous, etc.), countless transformations can be realized with different activity and reaction models. Under these backgrounds, in this special issue, the applications of C1 molecules in the synthesis of fine chemicals will be collected.
