Special Issue Introduction
The rapid advancement of renewable energy systems, electric vehicles (EVs), and portable electronics has spurred demand for high-energy-density rechargeable batteries. However, lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), the current dominant technology, face limitations in energy density, safety, and cost, hindering their ability to meet the growing requirements of long-range electric vehicles, grid-scale energy storage, and next-generation electronics. Therefore, it is essential to develop next-generation battery chemistry with high-energy-density, low cost, high safety and high electrochemical performance. We are calling for papers on this Special Issues to highlight the development of high-energy density batteries beyond lithium-ion batteries. We would like to invite interested authors to submit their original experimental, theoretical, and review papers as well as comments, prospective and highlight articles focusing on the subject for inclusion in this special issue. Potential topics include but are not limited to:
● Lithium and sodium batteries: cathode, anode, electrolyte and other key components;
● Multivalent batteries including: Mg, Zn, Al, and Ca batteries, etc.;
● Solid-state batteries, electrolyte and interphase;
● Lithium and sodium metal anodes;
● Multi-model diagnostic techniques;
● Recycling of battery materials;
● Chemical synthesis of battery materials;
● Density-functional-theory method on material design;
● Electrode/electrolyte interphasial chemistry;
Keywords
High-energy density batteries, electrode materials, liquid electrolytes, solid electrolytes, interphase, recycling, safety
