Special Topic Introduction

This Special Issue highlights recent advances in catalytic science and engineering for sustainable environmental remediation and resource recovery.

It showcases cutting-edge developments in the rational design of catalytic materials, fundamental mechanistic insights, and innovative reactor and process engineering strategies for efficient conversion of pollutants into valuable chemicals and energy carriers. Particular emphasis is placed on electrocatalytic, photocatalytic, and thermocatalytic systems, with a focus on establishing structure–activity relationships, regulating reaction pathways, and constructing multifunctional or synergistic catalytic architectures.

Within the framework of carbon neutrality and circular economy, this Special Issue encourages contributions that integrate fundamental catalysis with scalable environmental and energy technologies. Priority areas include mechanistic studies of catalytic reactions, development of robust and efficient catalytic systems, and integrated processes for air and water purification, waste valorization, CO₂ conversion, and secondary resource recovery.

By bridging advances in catalytic materials, reaction mechanisms, and reactor engineering, this Special Issue aims to promote transformative approaches toward efficient pollution mitigation and sustainable resource utilization, contributing to a low-carbon and circular future.
