Special Issue Introduction

Exosomes have emerged as promising vehicles in the fight against cancer drug resistance due to their unique ability to deliver therapeutic agents directly to target cells. These small extracellular vesicles can encapsulate drugs, genetic materials, or therapeutic proteins and transport them efficiently to cancer cells. This targeted delivery system has the potential to overcome some of the limitations of traditional drug delivery methods, such as poor drug penetration and off-target effects. By utilizing exosomes to transport therapies specifically designed to counteract resistance mechanisms, researchers aim to enhance the effectiveness of cancer treatments and address the challenge of drug-resistant tumors more effectively.

However, the role of exosomes in drug resistance extends beyond their therapeutic applications. Exosomes can also contribute to the development of drug resistance by carrying and disseminating resistance factors among cancer cells. These vesicles can transport molecules that help cancer cells evade the effects of chemotherapy or targeted treatments, thereby exacerbating the problem of resistance. Understanding how exosomes facilitate this process is crucial for developing strategies to counteract their role in drug resistance and improve patient outcomes. By studying both sides of the exosomal impact, researchers are better equipped to harness their potential while mitigating the challenges they pose in cancer therapy.

Subtopics suggested by our Editorial Office are listed below but not limited to:
