Special Issue Introduction

Advancements in multimodal neuroimaging techniques, such as MRI and PET, have significantly accelerated brain structural and functional research concerning cognitive aging and Alzheimer's disease (AD), offering new insights into understanding the neural mechanisms underlying age-related cognitive changes in both normal and pathological aging. Particularly noteworthy is the fusion of the big data of multimodal imaging with AI techniques, enabling the potential prediction of AD risk and the assessment of brain health in elderly individuals. This facilitates the development of important predictive models and imaging biomarkers for future clinical applications. This Special Issue aims to present the latest breakthroughs in neuroimaging, focusing on their impact on unraveling neural mechanisms, developing computational models, and identifying imaging biomarkers of cognitive aging and AD, ultimately paving the way for enhanced clinical evaluations and innovative therapeutic interventions.
