Special Issue Introduction
Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis are characterized by the progressive deposition of intracellular or extracellular proteinaceous aggregates in the nervous system. Recent evidence supports that these protein aggregates originate from the prion-like seeded aggregation of misfolded proteins such as amyloid-β, Tau, α-synuclein, and TDP43. The pathologic proteins spread alone neuroanatomically connected brain areas through a prion-like mechanism. Ageing and Neurodegenerative Diseases decided to launch this call to collect works on the aggregation, propagation, spread, and toxicity of protein aggregates. Original research papers, reviews, perspectives, and views & comments are all welcomed.
