Special Topic Introduction

The global transition toward carbon neutrality requires innovative technologies that can convert waste resources into valuable products, including energy, fuels, chemicals, and materials, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and minimizing environmental impacts. Waste streams such as biomass residues, municipal solid waste, plastics, industrial byproducts, and wastewater-derived solids represent both pressing environmental challenges and important opportunities for resource recovery.

 

This Special Issue, “Advanced Waste-to-Energy and Resource Recovery Technologies for Carbon Neutrality and a Circular Economy”, aims to highlight recent advances in the conversion, treatment, and valorization of waste resources through advanced thermochemical, biochemical, electrochemical, plasma-assisted, and integrated process technologies. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, waste-to-energy and waste-to-chemical processes, catalytic upgrading and product valorization, biorefinery approaches, circular economy strategies, biochar and functional material production, nutrient and metal recovery, process intensification, system integration, environmental contaminant removal, techno-economic analysis, and life-cycle assessment.

 

We welcome original research articles, reviews, and perspectives that provide new scientific insights, technological innovations, and system-level strategies for advancing waste valorization, resource recovery, circular economy, and carbon-neutral energy systems.
