On January 26, 2018, the 2017 Annual Report of Vessel Plus (VP) was held. Sylvia Wang, Managing Editor, gave a review of the development of the journal over the past year to all members of the Editorial Office, which reads as follows.

On March 31, 2017, VP was launched and the first issue was officially published under the leadership of our Editors-in-Chief Professor Aaron S. Dumont, Professor Mario F. L. Gaudino, and Professor Alexander N. Orekhov, Professor Alexander D. Verin, with the joint efforts of all the members of the Editorial Board, editorial staffs, authors, reviewers and our readers. Later, a succession of three issues was released as a quarterly publication. Among all of the 33 articles published last year, 8 originate from the Special Issue Atherosclerosis and Related Diseases organized by our Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Alexander N. Orekhov. The types of articles published last year and authors' countries of origin are shown in the following figures:

As the journal develops and its influence grows, VP has been indexed by 3 databases, including J-Gate, ResearchBib, and Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI) (selectively indexed). The readership of the journal has also expanded to include 95 countries and regions around the world. A great deal of recognition and support was received from readers in many countries, especially in China, the United States, Italy, and Russia. The original article entitled "Crimping and deployment of metallic and polymeric stents -- finite element modelling" attributed to Prof. Li-Guo Zhao at Loughborough University, has been viewed 3,769 times and downloaded 375 times. Dr. Yunzhou Dong and Dr. Hong Chen from Boston Children's Hospital at Harvard Medical School contributed a review article entitled "Mimetic peptide of ubiquitin-interacting motif of epsin as a cancer therapeutic-perspective in brain tumor therapy through regulating VEGFR2 signaling", which has also been viewed 2,126 times and downloaded 132 times. Another popular article entitled "Small dense and desialylated low density lipoprotein in diabetic patients" by Dr. Igor A. Sobenin, the Associate Editor of Vessel Plus, has been browsed more than 50,000 times, and downloaded 131 times. Readership of the journal is shown as follows:

In consistent pursuit of high-quality publishing, VP carried out extensive international cooperation in 2017. For journal promotion, we are also working with 11 international conferences, including The 4th International 4 Corners of Cardiology, 11th Congress of the Vascular Access Society, International Conference on Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery. During August 10-13, 2017, VP Editors attended China Heart Congress (CHC) 2017 in Conjunction with The Second China Vascular Congress (CVC) held at the China National Convention Center (CNCC), Beijing, where we listened to a series of excellent lectures from experts and exchanged views on the latest research results in the field, providing experts both at home and abroad with a deeper understanding of the journal. Extensive cooperation and continuous progress of the journal have inspired many excellent experts to devote to Special Issues on trending topics, including Changing Paradigm for Hypertension Treatment Goals organized by Prof. James W. Reed, Stem Cell Regenerative Therapy of Cardiovascular Diseases by Dr. Mahmood Khan, Strategy of Percutaneous Coronary Intervention for Complex Higher-risk Patients by Dr. Hirofumi Hioki, Ruptured Aneurysms: Open and Endovascular Repair by Nikolaos Patelis, etc. More Special Issues are to be determined upon further communication. Planned Special Issues can be accessed from https://oaepublish.com/vp.

In addition, from July 2016 to July 2017, the first VP Editorial Board membership has grown to 84 experts worldwide. With the efforts and support of these experts, VP has successfully built on a solid foundation and made some gratifying achievements in the past year. As is required by the development of our journal, the Editorial Board held a general election in August 2017, at the expiration of the first Editorial Board. Currently, the second Editorial Board is composed of 43 excellent and experienced experts from 15 countries. I believe that with the guidance of our Editors-in-Chief and support of all Editorial Board members, VP will make a greater breakthrough in 2018.

Hereby, the editorial team would like to thank our Editors-in-Chief, Editorial Board members, reviewers, readers, and authors of the journal for their hard work and continuous support over the past year. 2017 marks the first year of publication of VP and we have been constantly moving forward ever since. In adhering to the principle of "publishing high-quality articles and creating a highly influential journal", we've always been following the international ethical guidelines and publishing standards as well as strict peer review processes. In order to achieve our goal, we will never forget why we started, and continue to move forward in 2018. We are on our way!

Respectfully submitted by Sylvia Wang, Managing Editor.
