A Warm Welcome to Professor Yi-Lin Cao for Joining Plastic and Aesthetic Research as Associate Editor

OAE Publishing Inc. is honored to have had Professor Yi-Lin Cao join us in Plastic and Aesthetic Research (PAR) as the Associate Editor in recent days. Professor Cao has been serving as Director of the National Engineering Center for Tissue Engineering, Director of Department of Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, Ninth People's Hospital Affiliated to School of Medicine at Shanghai Jiaotong University, Director of the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Tissue Engineering, and Distinguished Professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program, and has served two terms as the Chief Scientist of the national "973" projects.

PAR (Print ISSN: 2347-9264; Online ISSN: 2349-6150) is a forward-looking, open access international academic journal with heavy focus on the publication of basic and clinical research on plastic and aesthetic surgery since its founding. It aims to provide a platform for scholars in the plastic and aesthetic surgery all over the world to promote the exchange and sharing of innovative technologies and research results in this field.

Professor Cao has made high academic accomplishments in the field of tissue engineering. He has published more than 440 academic papers, including over 140 SCI papers. He was the first to apply tissue engineering technology to regenerate cartilage in the shape of human ear on the back of a laboratory mouse, thus causing quite a sensation in the academic community at home and abroad. In addition to his achievements in scientific research, Professor Cao is also enthusiastic about other social affairs and has held important positions in several well-known journals, such as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Tissue Engineering and Reconstructive Surgery, Associate Editor of Tissue Engineering and Biomaterial journals, and board member of 10-plus SCI journals and Chinese core journals, such as PRS.

Hereby, the current Editor-in-Chief, Professor Raúl González-García of Christina University together with all OAE editorial staff, would like to extend a warm welcome to Professor Cao. We firmly believe that with Professor Cao joining our journal, PAR will make greater progress in academic quality and bring its international influence to a new height!

Professor Yi-Lin Cao takes positions as chief physician, and doctoral tutor and is awarded as national labor model. He currently serves as director of Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, director of the National Engineering Center for Tissue Engineering, director of the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Tissue Engineering, Professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program, and the chief scientist of the two national "973" projects. He also took position as Chairman of the International Association of Asia-Pacific Regional Organizations for Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, Director of the International Union of Orthopedic and Aesthetic Surgery, Vice Chairman of the China Biomaterials Committee, Director of the Chinese Medical Association, Vice-Chairman of Tissue Engineering Medical Device Products Subcommittee under National Technical Standardization Committee on Surgical Implants and Orthopaedic Devices, Chairman of the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Surgery Committee of the 8th Chinese Society of Rehabilitation Medicine, and Chairperson of Orthopaedic and Aesthetic Surgery Special Committee under the 1st China Non-Public Medical Association. He has served as Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Tissue Engineering and Reconstructive Surgery, Associate Editor of Tissue Engineering and Biomaterial Magazine, and as Editorial Board member in PRS and more than 10 foreign SCI journals and domestic core journals. He was previously Associate Dean of the Ninth People's Hospital of Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine (1999-2014), Dean of the Beijing Orthopaedic Surgery Hospital (2006-2014), Vice President of the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering (2008-2015), Member of the Orthopaedic Surgery Branch of Chinese Medical Association (2005-2012), Chairman of the Organizational Engineering Branch of the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering (2006-2012), and Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese Journal of Plastic Surgery.
For his achievements in scientific research, he has been awarded the second prize of National Invention, two first prizes of Shanghai science and technology progress, and nine other provincial and ministerial prizes. For his individual qualifications and merits, he has been awarded the highest honors in the international plastic surgery field by Maliniac Lecture-Excellent Honor Esteem, and the James Barrett Brown Award for plastic surgery in the United States. He has won titles of Distinguished Young Scholars of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the Outstanding Young Scholars of the Science and Technology Foundation, and the Shanghai Science and Technology Elite, Experts with Outstanding Contributions of the Ministry of Personnel of the People's Republic of China, National Excellent Scientist of China Association of Science and Technology, National Outstanding Professionals, Individual Excellent Award for National Returned Overseas Chinese and Overseas Chinese, Returned Overseas Students Achievement Awards, National Awards for Excellence in Overseas Chinese Affairs, Excellence in Teaching Award at the Union Medical College. He has also been credited for his managerial expertise with outstanding contributions in scientific and technological field of Beijing.
Professor Cao has published more than 440 papers, including 140-plus SCI articles ( in 85 of which he was credited as correspondence authors and in 8 as first author), edited 4 monographs and 13 books (including 5 foreign editors). He has served as the first translator in 1 monograph, and participated in the translation of 2 works. He has mentored 6 post-doctoral candidates, 68 doctoral candidates, and 5 postgraduates. He has been granted 29 patents, including 1 utility model patent.
