It gives me great pleasure to present the 2016 Annual Work Report of Plastic and Aesthetic Research (PAR). On January 10, 2017, as Managing Editor, I presented an overall review of the development of the journal over the past year to all members of the editorial office. A summary of the key events of what a very busy year has read follows.
In 2016, led by Editor-in-Chief Professor Raúl González-García, thanks to the concerted efforts of all editorial members and editorial staff, and with the support of external reviewers, readers and authors, PAR achieved extremely fruitful results.
In 2016, PAR published a total of 73 articles, which included four special issues. These special issues were organized by the experts shown as follows:

1. Topic: Aesthetic Surgery of the Breast
It consisted of 9 articles organized by an Editorial Board member, Mr. Umar Daraz Khan.
2. Topic: Biomaterials for Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery
It consisted of 6 articles organized by an Associate Editor, Professor Wen-Guo Cui.
3. Topic: State of the Art in the Management of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma
It consisted of 12 articles organized by our Editor-in-Chief, Professor Raúl González-García.

Compared with the previous year, the peer review of the journal was more stringent and scientific in 2016, and the quality of articles has consequently been greatly improved. PAR is continually consulted by global experts in the field of plastic surgery and has attained a larger readership, which has become a favorite journal for authors.

A total of 73 publications were read cumulatively 159,620 times (data collected from March 1 to December 31, 2016 on OAE Publishing Inc. ). The article contributed by Dr. Xin Zhao, et al. entitled "Intradermal fillers for minimally invasive treatment of facial aging" was read 13,088 times; “Elective neck dissection in early oral squamous cell carcinoma: necessary?” contributed by Dr. Carlos Moreno-García et al. and "How we do it: the Running-X suture technique" contributed by Dr. Ronald Mancini et al. were read 7,846 times and 7,555 times, respectively. In addition, 73 articles were downloaded cumulatively 5,949 times (data collected from March 1 to December 31, 2016 on the website of OAE Publishing Inc.). Particular mention should be given to the article entitled “Intradermal fillers for minimally invasive treatment of facial aging” organized by the Guest Editor and Associate Editor, Professor Wen-Guo Cui, which has been downloaded 440 times.

The following four excellent articles are also noteworthy:"Advances in the research of autologous fibroblast injections for aging skin" and "An update review on recent skin fillers" contributed by Dr. Yu-Guang Zhang, et al.; "Collagen membrane for reconstruction of soft tissue defects after surgery of oral cancer and precancer: a brief review" contributed by Dr. Ankita Vastani;"Full retroauricular skin and fascia expansion in microtia reconstruction: a single center experience of 166 cases" contributed by Professor Ji-Hua Wang, et al.

In 2016, PAR actively cooperated with nine major international academic conferences in the field of plastic and aesthetic research, such as the 5th Annual Meeting of the Rhinoplasty Society of Europe, ICAAM, and the International Society of Bariatric Plastic Surgeons. At the same time, PAR has also striven to learn from PRS, the leading journal in this field, and has cooperated with PRS Global Open in the promotion of each other's development. In addition, PAR has been indexed by the following 15 databases: DOAJ, EBSCO, Hinari, Eurasian Scientific Journal Index, Google Scholar, Root Indexing, JournalTOCs, JournalGuide, CNKI, Wanfang Data, DRJI, J-Gate, SHERPA/RoMEO, Bielefeld Academic Search Engine (BASE), and ResearchBib.

Through cooperation with conferences, inclusion in databases and joint promotion with OAE Publishing Inc., the global influence of the journal is constantly expanding and it is becoming well known among experts and other readers alike. By December 2016, the readership of the journal had been distributed across 173 countries around the world.

The editorial team would like to take this opportunity to thank the Editor-in-Chief, Editorial Board members, reviewers, readers, and authors of the journal for their hard work and continuing support over the past year. In 2016, the journal made some gratifying achievements, but there is still a long way to go to reach our ultimate objective. In 2017, under the leadership of our Editor-in-Chief Professor Raúl González-García, the Editorial Board members, reviewers and the editorial staff will cooperate still more closely with each other to continue to uphold the rigorous scientific quality and fairness in publication of the journal, in order to create a high-quality journal with a global influence and to improve on the achievements of 2016.

Respectfully submitted by Rui-Rui Zhang, Managing Editor.
